🎙️ Speaker: Sheila Khan, sociologist and researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre at the University of Minho. She holds a PhD in Ethnic and Cultural Studies from the University of Warwick, and her work focuses on post-colonial studies, particularly the relationship between Mozambique and Portugal.


This talk explores the ongoing denial of colonial legacies and racism in Europe, particularly in Portugal. Luso-tropicalism, developed by Gilberto Freyre, fostered the belief that Portuguese society was free from racism. This idealized narrative, spread through education and media, hinders efforts to address systemic racism.
